DBT Classes
Dialectical Behavior Therapy Groups and Classes.
We continue to see youth mental health decline both nationwide and in our local community. The statistics on youth depression, suicide and other problems highlight the urgent need to help and support our kids. As a school counselor, I am passionate about providing real solutions to help students build resiliency and to acquire the skills necessary to navigate their complex social and world climates. In our current system, we too often wait until children are already struggling before giving them the necessary tools to cope. This couldn't be more important in our community that continues to weather local trauma and loss during a global pandemic.
I utilize an evidence base curriculum in my groups and classes called DBT STEPS-A and I incorporate resources for families to also gain knowledge and understanding around the specific skills that your child is learning.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills have been demonstrated to be effective in helping adolescents manage difficult emotional situations, cope with stress, and make better decisions.
The skills of the DBT STEPS-A curriculum are evidence-based and divided into four main modules: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness which align with the five CASEL competencies.
